Granada Hills Charter TK8 Mosaic Bench, 2024
2.5ft x 6ft
TK8 Campus
The TK–8 campus bench is a functional and symbolic centerpiece that invites students, staff, and families to pause, gather, and connect. Installed in a shared outdoor lunch/common space, the concrete bench is fully wrapped in a custom mosaic tile design. A defining feature of the piece is a continuous “ribbon” of tiles that flows across the surface, engraved with words contributed by the school community. These words reflect shared values, goals, and the collective identity of Granada Hills Charter. Surrounding the ribbon, hand-textured tiles—created during professional development sessions—capture impressions of natural elements and campus textures, embedding the physical environment and its people directly into the artwork. As both a commemorative work for the schoolʼs 20th anniversary and a living archive of community participation, the bench embodies a sense of pride, belonging, and shared ownership.
